Last weekend the
RMGC Men’s team succeeded in qualifying for the 3rd Division of the
PACA league. We played a Promotion event
over two days at Garden Golf Avignon in very wet and windy conditions. Ten teams from around the PACA region
participated. We were the leaders in the
strokeplay after the first day, narrowly ahead of the second placed team and
some 40 strokes ahead of the third placed team.
On the second day we played a matchplay competition against St Baume,
which comprised two foursomes and five singles matches. After winning both foursomes only two singles
victories were required, and this was duly accomplished. The result means that the team has qualified
to compete in the 3rd Division next year. It has been many years since RMGC has had a
Men’s team (other than Seniors) in any local or national league competitions. Some great golf was played in difficult
conditions, and thanks are due to all the young members of Stephane Damiano’s
academy who contributed to the achievement. They are a credit to the club.
