Mougins, Tuesday March 29th 2016
Dear members,
Spring is the time of the year, when it is summer in the sun and
winter in the shade.
Time to send you an update about what’s happening
at your Club.
11. UPDATE ON COURSE
RENOVATION WORKS PHASE 2
Works have now started on the course with the
continuing upgrading of the bunkers and other general works. The plan is to
address the bunker issues that we have had on the following holes:
- 2 bunkers on the back of the 2nd green.
- Relevel and top up with sand the bunker on the 3rd fairway.
- Soften the front bunker on the 5th green.
- Reshape the bunker to the left of the 5th green.
- Reduce and reshape the bunker at the 6th green.
- Reshape and increase the levels of both bunkers at the 7th green.
- Reduce and reshape the bunker at the 8th green.
- Reduce and reshape the bunker at the 10th green. Put 2 new bunkers in.
- Remove the 4 bunkers at the 13th green and build 2 new bunkers.
We shall also be carrying out the following works
on the course:
- Creating better entrances/exits to the fairways from the paths on several holes.
- Returfing poor areas on the course.
- Creating a new walk area to the 6th green due to the destruction of the bridge from the October storm.
- Removing the worn area in front of the 8th green from the buggies and reshaping the approach for better drainage. A new parking area will be created to ensure safety for the players.
- Reducing some of the unmaintainable mounding on the course the allow machines to cut and grass to grow.
- Creating hardline areas outside of the irrigated turf to improve maintenance and esthetics.
- Building a new artificial state of the art practise tee in the range.
- Softening the area to the right of the 4th green for better access and playability.
- Softening the mounding to the right of the 10th green for better access.
- Increasing the size of the approach to the 8th and 13th greens.
Once again, we appreciate your patience as these
works take place. We would appreciate if you give the construction team priority
to continue with their work which will be on no more than 2 holes at a time.
The team will be working through weekends sometimes. This will allow for
delivery by mid- April, weather dependant.
When an area has been sodded or seeded we would ask
for you not to enter these zones. They will be roped off and while they might
look ready to walk on until the ropes are removed they are not.
Here are some pictures of the works to date:

2. OTHER BUSINESS.
The renovation of the kitchen has now been
completed and our Chefs Philippe ARTAUD and Servé VROMEN are happy with the
result. New menus and ideas await you at their La Terrasse du 18.
Security remains an issue. As you know there is a
member committee who have worked hard on a plan in order to improve security at
Royal Mougins. The outcome depends on the votes of the residents. The
installation of a speed gate at the main entrance is however not something
which depends on the residents. RMGC will install such a gate. The planning was
to do this before the season however due to delays in negotiations between the
speed gate provider and French construction companies this will now not be feasible.
I will keep you posted on the progress but we aim for construction to start
just after this season. Please note that you Security Committee is not
responsible for the delays.
At the end of
the day, the goals are simple: safety and security.
Meanwhile we have experienced the first robberies
on the course. We have taken some measures to prevent but the best way is to
never bring any valuables with you on the course. If you, as member, would like
to help us and from time to time be our ‘security agent’ for a day then please
contact me. Together we can keep the course safe. As a small token of our
appreciation we would reward you with a (staff) lunch and a green fee
voucher.
None of us is as smart as all of us.
A few reminders. On March the 31st we
start our bi-annual spiking program and we rely on your understanding as this
measure is of utmost importance to keep the greens in good condition all thru
the 2016 season.
As you know the Rattan Chadha Cup will be organized
on April 23rd and 24th. The theme of the Gala Dinner on
Sunday the 24th will be ‘East meets West’ as Michelin Star Guest
Chef Zei Lai Sin will cook you a marvellous menu together with our Chefs
Philippe Artaud and Servé Vromen.
When you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate
commitment
around a common purpose, anything is possible!
Other dates in April to mark:
April 7th green spiking
April 22nd General assembly
‘Association Sportive’
April 30th Dutch king’s Day
And last but not least I extend a very warm welcome
to our new members:
Peter Andersen (already scored a hole in 1 last week on 17! Congratulations.)

RMGC is focussed on
attracting more members to assure its future for at least another 20 years.
There are various membership programs (that already exist between RM’s
opening). Rest assured that we apply these programs to the letter contrary to rumours going around (see
Elisabeth for details). We have but a few odd and rare cases out of the ancient
past which are currently being reviewed by us in order to align all annual dues
soonest.
Obviously
golfers will have to start growing in number before the industry can even
consider returning to its 2003 highs. But current trends indicate the sport is
adapting to a new generation of time-strapped individuals that value family and
flexibility just as much as time on the golf course.
In view of all that is happening all around us my advice is: ‘Carpe Diem’. Let’s make it a great year!

The Royal Mougins Team
wishes you a great start of the season and please do not hesitate to contact me
with any recommendation, comment or idea you have. We are here for you!
“The future depends on what you do today.”
Best regards,
Jurgen Wondergem
Proud to be Royal Mougins!
“Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
